  • Our Climate Advisory Board, launching in Fall 2024 will help guide the development, support and engagement of new resilience hubs throughout the District.

  • This initiative, launching in 2025, will educate and provide programming for youth and community members.  (Note: NOAA ELP Deliverable).

  • We have ongoing and one-time volunteer opportunities throughout the DC area and look forward to working with you. We can provide service-learning credit hours for youth and adults.

  • Board Description RHCC seeks engaged community members to serve as Directors on a working Board that meets monthly. Directors are actively involved in governance, strategic planning, and programmatic initiatives that strengthen the resilience and responsiveness of Ward 7. Directors are volunteers and do not receive compensation for their services.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Governance: Oversee and ensure RHCC’s alignment with its mission, vision, and legal and financial responsibilities. Participate in developing organizational policies and strategies.

    • Programming: Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that meet community needs in steady, disruption, and recovery phases.

    • Meetings: Attend and actively contribute to monthly Board meetings and additional committee meetings as assigned.

    • Community Engagement: Act as an ambassador for RHCC, fostering relationships within Ward 7 and with broader community networks.

    • Fundraising: Participate in fundraising efforts, including outreach, donor relations, and resource development.

    • Strategic Planning: Collaborate on the development and execution of strategic initiatives to advance RHCC’s impact in Ward 7.

    Requirements

    • Commitment: Must be willing to dedicate approximately 5-10 hours per month, including monthly meetings, committee work, and community engagement.

    • Relationship with the Community: We are looking for people with ties to the DC community- such as living, working, or studying.

    • Experience: Prior experience in community organizing, emergency management, preparedness, nonprofit governance, or public service is beneficial but not required.

    • Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Backgrounds in community development, finance, law, or social services are especially valuable.

    Term and AppointmentDirectors serve a three-year term with a maximum of two consecutive terms. Directors are elected by the Board at monthly meetings and hold office until a successor is elected and qualified.
